Tonight I sat and watched with my lovely wife a test of wills between my beloved The Ohio State University and the Longhorns from Texas, and it was a beautiful thing.

Players from both sides played with every inch and ounce of their athletic ability. Defensive play after defensive play left us with a 6-3 score favoring the Buckeyes at halftime.

The coaching staff of Texas led by Mack Brown made some changes and for the entire 3rd quarter looked unstoppable, but the Buckeyes would not quit, the coaches would not quit.

Back and forth we went playing right to the end and in a game-winning drive that will forever leave Texas QB Colt McKoy in legendary status in Longhorn lore. Texas wins.

The Longhorns stand tall while I sit and ask why? How could this have happened? Where did it go wrong? One slip . . . one fingertip away . . . one inch.

While I weep for  my heroes.

Just one simple play away.

Just one simple play about 8 times over, that inch there, or another inch there.

These are the kind of games that make college football great, actually it’s the kind of event that makes sports great.

Two teams struggling, clawing, reaching, jumping, running and striving to be the winner. Every last measure of their athletic skill.

Congratulations Texas, you deserved the victory, you played hard, fast and fair and yet it doen’t lessen my pain for my Buckeyes or this man.

Chris “Beanie” Wells

Chris “Beanie” Wells is the running back for the Buckeyes and the heart and soul of the Buckeyes ability to run the football.

He runs with a reckless abandon and violence that not only causes pain and danger to the opposition, but to himself as well.

Beanie is one of those guys that grew up in Ohio and wanted to be a Buckeye, he wants to bleed scarlet and gray, to be the absolute best player he can become. Chris wants to become a legend.

But becoming a legend has a price and his body has paid the toll.

If this was his last game as a Buckeye he has nothing to be ashamed of, he should hold his head high. Chris you ran with a spirit and abandon we rarely see.

You are a crazy wild linebacker living life as a running back.

I thank you for your time as a Buckeye and wish you well in your next stage of life. A legendary runnig back in the NFL.
