Inflation is not only coming, it’s here.

Look at these price increases over the last 6 months.

Staggering

Cotton = +125.7%
Sugar = +82.6%
Corn = +59.0%
Coffee = +41.4%
Rice = +40.5%
Oats = +36.6%
Copper = +36.1%
Lumber = +33.8%
Oil = +25.1%

It looks like the price of decks is going to go way up, along with the cost of uniforms. I almost forgot that cup or two of coffee in the morning, or that pot of coffee working over the drawing board.

The cost of being in business just continues to make it tougher and tougher to be in the landscape industry and any other dang business.

    Hi Rick,

    I read recently that “The Knowledge is Given to the Crane from Above”.

    So regarding inflation:

    What is the the “Knowledge” from above that is given?

    Who is the “Giver”?

    Who is the “Crane”?

    Where is “Above”?

    I enjoy your reflections, comments and questions. Or are you just getting bored with winter and looking forward to spring.

      A lot of that language came when I was designing the “Chop” you see in the post. I had gone to San Francisco’s Chinatown.

      I had been directed to spend time with a shop owner and her gentlemen artist on creating the perfect chop for the Whispering Crane Institute.

      From hear the story gets much more complicated and much more secretive, and I believe some things are better left untold or unknown.

      So, that’s the best you are going to get Jonathan, hope you are doing well!

        Yes, enough said.

        I and mine are doing well. I’m working on a possible project north of you in Wisconsin. It’s much too cold there to do anyting in the landscape other than plan. But we do that!
